And if the Iliad fails to treat Odysseus as a bow-hero, it does not necessarily follow that its composer s did not know that he had ever been treated thus ; they may have deliberately ignored his associations with a comparatively unheroic weapon. Cynaethos, late in the sixth century, seems to have revised traditional poetry, adding something of his own, but accepting much from his predecessors i3.
